Peter Spalitto, DDS
Owner, West County Dental
Introducing you, your family and employees to a better dental experience

If you’ve been looking for an experienced dentist who is highly trained, caring, compassionate, providing pain-free, comprehensive, one-stop service for a myriad of specialties, one who is focused on taking time to listen to each concern so the patient’s overall dental and physical health can be improved, whose goals include promoting outstanding dental practices, take a look at Peter Spalitto, DDS.

Known affectionately by patients as “Dr. Pete,” his services, include general dentistry, cleaning, prevention, sedation; dental implants; crowns; dentures; partials; orthodontics; periodontal disease treatment; cosmetic dentistry; pediatric dentistry; snoring prevention; teeth grinding; TMJ/TMD; oral procedures; laser dentistry; extractions and root canals.

He received his bachelor degree in biology from Truman State in Kirksville, and attended dental school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC.) During his time at UMKC, he served as class Vice President and was involved with the Honors Endodontics Program.

Inspired by his father and grandfather throughout his life, he demonstrated an interest in dentistry at a young age by accompanying his father, who is a dentist, to his office. His grandfather, a WWII veteran, instilled in him a deep appreciation of what it means to be an American. “My father and grandfather encouraged my becoming an Eagle Scout and my grandfather’s example was responsible for my desire to serve my country.

“I joined the US Army and benefited greatly from its excellent scholarship program. After graduating with my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2000, I proudly became a soldier-dentist.” While serving, Dr. Pete achieved the rank of Major. He participated in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program, which provides additional concentrated learning in specific areas, such as root canals, braces, oral surgery, and many other complex procedures. During his active duty, Dr. Pete was able to apply his knowledge in his treatment of soldiers worldwide, including Korea and Iraq.

This experience, in addition to his more recent work in private practice in Kansas City and continuing education through professional organizations, gives Dr. Pete the understanding and knowledge to treat most dental needs you or a family member might have. He opened his Des Peres office 11 years ago.

Comprehensive Services For All Ages
His approach is comprehensive, which means that rather than specializing in one particular treatment or procedure, he has concentrated on developing the skills needed to treat the whole spectrum of dental health needs that arise throughout a person's life. It can also be more cost effective.

Dr. Pete is a “dentist for all ages.” Whether it's a 2-year old child and above or a 90+-year old aging adult he is adept at handling everyone’s dental needs. As a matter of fact, he is a staff dentist and treats skilled nursing patients in Quarters at Des Peres, including those with Dementia, Alzheimers Disease, etc.

“We see everyone and address ALL their needs. I believe this is the way dentistry should be practiced.” He strives to educate each patient about the importance of good dental care and its impact on their overall physical health. Each patient is unique in their needs, which requires one-on-one communication and understanding – areas where his superior listening skills are key.

He is also committed to continually learning about the most recent advances in the dental field. He participates in the St. Louis chapter of the Seattle Study Club, is a member of the Greater St. Louis Dental Association, Missouri and American Dental Association.

Pain Free Dentistry – Really? Yes, Really . . .
. . . and thanks to Dr. Pete and his team, it can even be enjoyable!
“By utilizing the latest in dental technology and equipment, we can enhance the overall comfort and convenience of each visit. For patients who are afraid of the dentist, we offer a wide array of sedation dentistry options. In addition, for those who don't have time to come back week after week after week, we offer crowns in a day!

“Our office is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi and you can even have access to a computer. We also make wireless headphones and pillows available to enhance your overall comfort while all children receive toys and prizes. From start to finish, we want to make every moment of your visit as peaceful and stress-free as possible.

“Millions of Americans suffer from dental anxiety, leading them to delay much-needed dental appointments and routine cleanings—to the detriment of their oral health. Fortunately, there is a solution. Sedation dentistry uses medication to relax patients during their visit to the dentist's office, providing them with relief for their anxiety. At West County Dental, we offer these options for sedation dentistry:
Nitrous Oxide. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide induces a mild sedative effect that allows the patient to relax. When you receive nitrous oxide, you will be conscious and able to communicate with your dentist throughout your visit.
Oral Conscious Sedation. As with IV sedation, this form of sedation places you in a relaxed state but allows you to remain conscious and able to respond. However, it is administered by taking a pill prior to arriving at your dentist's office. You will need a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment. Sedation dentistry is a great solution for anyone who becomes paralyzed with fear at the thought of visiting the dentist. With Dr. Pete and his team, virtually all their dental care treatments can be performed under varying degrees of sedation. The end result is your teeth and gums get the care they need, without all the memories.

If you have lost a tooth, ask Dr. Pete about dental implants. An implant is not only quick and easy to place, but it can also do wonders for your appearance and self-confidence. Here are just a few of the benefits of implants:
Permanent Solution: Once installed, a dental implant will be a permanent part of your mouth. You can brush and floss your implant just as you do your other teeth, and no one will even be able to tell that you have an implant.
Minimal Recovery Time: A traditional implant procedure involves a recovery period after each dental visit. At times, a same-day, single visit procedure may be possible. West County Dental also offers sedation dentistry to ensure our patients' comfort.
Reasons to Consider Dental Implants
Leaving a gap in your teeth can lead to a number of serious health problems. At Dr. Pete's office, we have more than a decade of experience providing our patients with dental implants in single-visit procedures.
Filling a gap with a dental implant can provide these advantages:
Restore Smile: Perhaps the clearest benefit of dental implants is the restoration of a full, bright smile. If you are constantly covering up your teeth, or are otherwise embarrassed by your teeth, you'll find that a dental implant will once again make you proud to smile.
Prevent Shifting: If you have a gap in your smile, your remaining teeth will eventually shift into the empty space. A single-visit dental implant can serve as a permanent replacement for your missing tooth, reducing your chances of needing orthodontic treatment in the future.
Protect Jawbone: If left without a purpose, the section of jawbone beneath your missing tooth will deteriorate over time. A dental implant can protect your jawbone better than other restorative methods.
