When Jennifer Peper, the bright, knowledgeable, talented salesperson and marketer for HI 66, met the Hotel’s amazing owners, the talented husband and wife development team, Armit and Amy Gill, she recognized the opportunity to work with this highly respected couple would be a great opportunity. The Gill’s have built a reputation of restoring and updating historical properties in the metro area as well as Davenport, IA. They are currently re-developing the Grove area in St Louis.

These three share an unwavering focus on providing outstanding customer service, enormous enthusiasm for their profession and a successful future for HI 66. Anyone seeing the excited groups of customers of all ages registering to stay in the hotel is aware the Gill’s business plan and strategy is working.

About HI 66

“When the Gill’s took over the property in December, 2012, they witnessed the nostalgia people have for Route 66 and the hotel’s past. In order to distinguish between the hotel’s former identity and the present, they made the decision to go in a new direction,” Jennifer, Director of Sales and Marketing, reports. Jennifer joined the HI 66 team in August 2013, less than a year after the Gill’s took possession.

The new direction includes tying the “Mother Road” even closer to the Hotel by re-naming it HI 66, for Holiday Inn Route 66. And it didn’t end there – they did a total renovation of the building, inside and out, including the entrance, lobby, every room, Conference and meeting spaces. The results are drop-jaw beautiful!

The Gill’s remind customers of the famous highway that once ran past the hotel. Their hope to increase the hotel’s popularity in the area as well as the Route 66 road trippers who follow the old highway in their 1960’s muscle cars and other vintage vehicles has been very effective.

The American driving tour first flourished along Route 66, which drew even more nostalgia seekers as a result of the early 1960s TV series “Route 66” about the fictional adventures of Tod Stiles and Buz Murdock in their Corvette convertible.

The hotel’s convenient Sunset Hills location, on the northwest corner of the South Lindbergh Blvd and Watson Road intersection, with quick access to the I-44 /I-270 interchange makes it easy to reach from all directions.

“We encourage families to visit the many nearby attractions. There is The Magic House which is a great favorite of young children just a few blocks away. The Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center is very close as is Laumeier Sculpture Park, and Museum of Transportation.

“There’s lots of shopping to do in close-by centers, one just across Watson Road from the hotel, another in Historic Downtown Kirkwood, and the West County Shopping Center.

“Most of our guests enjoy our indoor-outdoor pools.  Our lobby has a variety of snacks available and the popular T-Bird Café and Twisted Tree Steakhouse are on-site.”

The hotel is unique in the sense that all the meeting rooms are located on the same floor, making it ultra convenient for sponsors, attendees and hotel guests.

“The flexibility of our 18,000 square feet of newly renovated meeting rooms allow us to accommodate large, as well as small group meetings.

“Our Conference Event Center rooms make homage to our Historic Route-66 Roots as evidence by our room names, such as the signature “Cadillac” Ballroom. Its 5,810 square feet can accommodate a banquet for 450. This room is particularly popular for large parties, including weddings. In fact, we have a total package available including flowers; a photographer, all the details the bride and groom wish for their special day.

“We have a complete kitchen and culinary staff dedicated to handle all conferences and social events held in our meeting rooms. In addition to weddings, the Event Center is a popular spot for celebrations such as anniversaries, reunions, etc. 

“Our Junior Ballroom is aptly named the “Riviera” Ballroom and it can be divided into three separate meeting rooms:  Continental, Monte Carlo and Riviera.

    Jennifer was raised in a small town south of Springfield, IL. She earned her BA from SLU and headed west to Reno, NV where she was quickly employed in retail. A few years later, she began to consider a different vocation but hadn’t quite settled on what that might be until she “fell into hospitality.”

“After interviewing for a job in hospitality, I felt terrible because I didn’t know anything about this specialty.” Imagine her surprise when she was offered the job. The person conducting the interview explained Jennifer’s genuine friendliness and personality were perfect for the position, and explained she could teach her all the skills needed for the job but her attributes were invaluable.

A few years later, Jennifer decided it was time for her to move back, closer to family, friends and home. That’s when she decided to put her toe into the online dating pool. “Naturally, my Mom was protective of me, so when I met this fellow online and learned he worked at Prairie Farms, she was happy to check him out. My Mom also works for Prairie Farms, but in a different location. After she talked to some people she knows and asked them about Ken, she was greatly relieved to learn he was exactly who he claimed to be.”

Happily, she and Ken are married and live in Florissant. Jennifer is thoroughly enjoying her role as aunt to her sister’s three children, a 13-year old girl and 5-year old twin boys.
