Kirkwood - Des Peres Area Business Development Corporation
The Kirkwood - Des Peres Area Business Development Corporation has been created to provide a mechanism to: work toward retaining existing businesses in the Kirkwood area, attracting new businesses, supporting promotional programs designed to attract customers/tourists, and to engage in planning, consulting, promotion, marketing, financing and other related community and economic development activities. The Chamber has formed a separate non-for-profit entity to oversee economic development. The establishment of this Corporation positions the Kirkwood - Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce as one of the most progressive in the area and assures its leadership status within the state.
The Corporation is a 501 (c)3 organization.
The Kirkwood - Des Peres Area Public Service Memorial Fund is now accepting scholarship applications.
Applications for educational scholarships will be available along with other requests for assistance requiring a letter detailing the need. Applicant-finalists will be personally interviewed. "We've learned there is a broad spectrum of need," explained Jim Wright KBDC President. "For instance, the Police Academy is free, but recruits must buy their own uniforms at a cost of $400."

Gayle Messmann, past chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce, said a donation of $12,500 has been received from the Earl and Myrtle Walker Foundation. "We are extremely grateful to the Walkers. This donation will serve as matching grant funds in growing the Program," she reported. "An additional $1,000 donation was received from Kirkwood City Administrative Officer Mike Brown and his wife, Ann, and a $500 donation was received from Pioneer Bank & Trust Company President Jim Hall and his wife, JoAnn. These and several other contributions received are an excellent boost and will help us reach our goal of $25,000 this year," Messmann said.
Donations, made payable to the "Kirkwood - Des Peres Area Public Service Memorial Fund," are welcomed and can be mailed to, or dropped by, the Kirkwood-Des Peres Chamber of Commerce, 108 W. Adams, Kirkwood, MO 63122.

Kirkwood Junction Special Business District
Although Kirkwood was intended as a residential community, commercial demand and low taxes have contributed to the success of area businesses. Another factor in its commercial appeal was the formation of the Kirkwood Junction Special Business District (SBD) in 1975, a self-taxing organization serving over 300 businesses and property owners in the downtown area.
The function of Kirkwood Junction, in addition to sponsoring promotional events, includes: landscaping and maintenance of common grounds within the SBD, administration of the city's public parking program - including free customer parking - and general advertising and publicity for the entire district.
Kirkwood Junction also publishes a free map and guide to downtown Kirkwood. Telephone 822-0084 to request a copy.
