Meet Randall Higgins
Owner, Speedpro Imaging and Chamber Ambassador
Like many others, I’m an ‘immigrant’ to St Louis. I grew up in a small town in northwest Alabama called Florence, which I don’t think was named after the more famous Italian city. So when folks here ask me where I went to school, I answer that I went to West Point; and that was a long way from NW AL! Four years at the Military Academy taught me more things than I knew there was to know, and that education was more than just academics.
I decided if I was going to play “Army” I’d go all the way, so I also attended Airborne School, Air Assault School, and became an Army Ranger. I selected the Field Artillery as my branch, and my first assignment was for three years in Nurnberg, Germany. I love to travel, so almost every weekend we would spend going to one country or another and learning about it. Then I returned to the U.S. and went to the 101st Airborne Division, and became part of the Rapid Deployment Force; getting to travel to some more interesting places!
I left the military after that and joined Corning, where I was part of the telecom division that invented optical fiber. It was Corning that relocated me to St Louis, where I knew one person when I moved here – me. That was in 1985, but I was already a St Louis Cardinals fan. Two of the first three years here they went to the World Series, so I decided I needed season tickets so I could go to those games – and got them …. in 1988. Just in time for their longest dry spell of not going to the WS again until 2004!
I was one of those road warriors that spent 2-1/2 to 3 weeks a month on the road, working with telecom companies to build out their fiber optic infrastructures. After several million miles of travel with multiple airlines, I finally decided to get off the road and spend more time in St Louis with my family. I had met my wife, Karen, when I moved here, and we got married and built our home in South St Louis County. We raised our two children, Caitlin and Patrick, here - and this had become my home.
We looked into several different business models and chose Speedpro Imaging, a large format graphics printing business, for our next adventure. We’ve been in business for almost three years now, and I joined the Kirkwood-Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce to get to know other businesses in the area. I belong to several Chambers, and this Chamber has such as esprit de corps about it. You can tell that its members are proud of this community and love living here! I look forward to being an Ambassador of the Chamber, and making other members feel as welcome as I have. Working together we can help this Chamber continue to grow, and help us grow as well!
